Russia discovers 300 mln tn hydrocarbon field in Astrakhan Region

MOSCOW, Apr 16 (PRIME) – Russia has discovered a 300 million tonne hydrocarbon field in the Astrakhan Region in the south of the country, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Sergei Donskoi told reporters Wednesday.

“Late last year we added 300 million tonnes under the C2 category to the balance of the State Committee for Mineral Reserves; it is the Velikoye field, located in the Astrakhan Region,” Donskoi said.

The discovery was made by little-known company AFB, which is studying an option to develop the field jointly with oil majors, the minister said.
