Watchdog wants Google to lift all limits from Rzhev documentary
MOSCOW, Mar 16 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service has asked Google to lift all restrictions from documentary Rzhev. 500 Days in Fire, imposed by video hosting YouTube for what it said unacceptable content, at short notice, the authority said on Tuesday in a statement.
The watchdog called the prohibition by Google, YouTube’s owner, an act of censoring of Russian media and said in a letter that it violates the key principles of free distribution of information and free access to it.
The documentary was released on the official YouTube channel of media BelRos.
“The video was marked as age-restricted because it contains scenes of violence, images of dead bodies,” a Google spokesperson told PRIME, adding that the documentary is available on YouTube.
