Court supports Prosecutors in 16 bln rbl ex-Sakhalin-1 operator case

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, Feb 28 (PRIME) -- The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk City Court satisfied a 15.5 billion ruble claim of the Prosecutor General's Office over tax arrears and penalties of former operator of Sakhalin-1 Exxon Neftegas Limited on Tuesday, a spokesperson for the court told PRIME.

"The decision was made. Prosecutor’s demands were satisfied fully," the official said.

In the claim, filed on September 26, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Finance Ministry of the Sakhalin Region were the claimants, Exxon Neftegas Limited the defendant, the regional government and the office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service were the third parties. The assets of the defendant were frozen on September 27.

On October 7, President Vladimir Putin ordered the government to set up a new Russian operator of the Sakhalin-1 project, which will take over the rights and responsibilities of Exxon Neftegaz Limited. Sakhalinmorneftegaz-Shelf, a subsidiary of oil major Rosneft, was appointed the new operator’s managing company.
