PRESS: Russia can ban flights to any country deemed dangerous

MOSCOW, Nov 10 (PRIME) -- Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev discussed with his deputies at a meeting on Monday a prohibition to carry flights not only to Egypt, where an Airbus A321 crashed in late October, but also to any other country qualified as dangerous, business daily Kommersant reported Tuesday, citing government sources.

“A prohibition of flights to Egypt has been introduced, it will last not just for a month or two – for years,” a source said. Similar flight bans will be introduced “concerning other countries,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said: “There have been no recommendations regarding other destinations, so there is no sense in speaking about that, it is not on the agenda.”

But legislators polled by Kommersant said that they will approve the initiative if it reaches the parliament. “We cannot hold the doors wide open and say that we ensure security when there is threat from Islamic State,” Deputy Chairman of party Just Russia Oleg Nilov said.
