Putin calls for creating technological alliances at EAEU

MOSCOW, May 25 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday has suggested that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) states should choose common priorities on technological development and create technological alliances with involvement of third countries.

Well-coordinated efforts on strengthening of technological independence in the systemically important sectors of the economy are now in demand to reach the true technological self-sufficiency, Putin said.

“In the practical domain, I would suggest agreeing upon and implementing common priorities of technological transformation and innovative cooperation that would enable our countries not to depend in backbone industries from foreign technologies and companies, furthermore, if we see certain trends of restricting cooperation with a number of countries in these industries,” the president said.

“In this context, we could think of creation of Eurasian technological alliances with the involvement of partners from third countries,” he said, adding that such alliances could organize new science-intensive high-technological production facilities.

The EAEU comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.

Putin also said that the EAEU’s digital independence is on the agenda and Russia initiated the start of cooperation of the member countries in the IT industry in 2017.

“It is crucial that the member states of the union would shape a single digital ecosystem that would stipulate integration of the national systems of electronic state services and electronic governments of each of the five participants. I dare assure you that Russia has advanced here quite far and made a good reserve,” the president said.
