Report: Putin: US undermines dollar as global reserve currency

Putin73MOSCOW, Oct 14 (PRIME) -- The U.S. undermines the position of the dollar as a global reserve currency by using it as a sanction instrument for the sake of a fleeting political situation, President Vladimir Putin told CNBC in an interview published on the website of the Kremlin on Thursday.

"It seems to me that the U.S. is committing a very big mistake by using the dollar as a sanction instrument. They do it because they interrupt payments for the sanctioned products in dollars," he said.

Putin said that Russia passes to transactions in the national currencies, where possible, but is not interested in rejecting the currency fully, especially as a means of payment for energy. He said that the dollar falls in international payments and reserves.

He said that the U.S. are cutting the branch they are sitting on, and if they continue to do so, trust to the dollar will be undermined.
