Russian pay-TV market up 16% to 54 bln rbl in ‘13 - iKS-Consulting
MOSCOW, Apr 21 (PRIME) -- The Russian pay-TV market increased 16% to 54 billion rubles in 2013 and will expand 10% to over 59 billion rubles this year, according to a review of consulting agency iKS-Consulting seen by PRIME on Monday.
The number of pay-TV subscribers rose 11% in 2013 to 34.6 million people. The service penetration reached 62%.
In 2014, the number of subscribers will rise 5% to 36.2 million.
The number of digital pay-TV subscribers amounted to 18.9 million households, or 55%, while the number of analogue pay-TV subscribers amounted to 15.6 million households, or 45%.
“In 2013, the growth of the pay-TV largest segment, cable television, almost stopped. The subscriber base of cable television rose by a mere of 1.5%. However, it was primarily linked to a decrease in the base of analogue TV at (major mobile operator) MTS. Other cable television operators grew by an average of 5%,” iKS-Consulting said.
Wire-line operator Rostelecom led the market by revenue with a 21% share. The National Satellite Company, operating under the brand of Tricolor TV, led the market by the number of subscribers.
