Experts: Russian govt almost drops Windows in favor of local OS
MOSCOW, Apr 27 (PRIME) – The Russian government spent 57 million rubles to buy Microsoft’s operating system (OS) Windows in 2022, down 82% on the year, and January–March saw only one deal worth 31,000 rubles, project Kontur.Torgi said on Thursday in a research.
“In 2019, 305 purchases were registered worth 216.4 million rubles; in 2020, 314 deals for 282.2 million rubles; in 2021, 414 deals for 326 million rubles,” the research read.
The analysts explained the 2022–2023 downward trend by the fact that the state customers switch to national operating systems, including the most popular are RED OS and Astra Linux. Both based on foreign OS Linux, they are now part of the register of Russian software and duly certified.
The research read that the state customers signed 81 deals for Astra Linux for 92 million rubles and 18 deals for RED OS for 10 million rubles in 2021, and there were 228 purchases of Astra Linux for 1.398 billion rubles and 33 deals for RED OS for 44 million rubles in 2022.
In 2023, state customers have made 50 deals for Astra Linux for 57 million rubles and three deals for RED OS for 11.9 million rubles.
