MOSCOW, Mar 12 (PRIME) -- Russian consumers’ debt for natural gas grew by 2.4% on the year to almost 180 billion rubles in 2020, gas giant Gazprom’s subsidiary Gazprom Mezhregiongaz said in a statement on Friday.
“The combined consumer debt for supplied natural gas in 2020 amounted to almost 180 billion rubles, which is a 2.4% increase as compared with the previous year. The bulk of the debt of around 100 billion rubles was accumulated by consumers from the republics located in the North Caucasus Federal District,” the company said.
Debts of individuals grew by 7% in 2020 to more than 80 billion rubles thanks to a government moratorium on fines for overdue public utility debts introduced during the coronavirus pandemic. The debt of heating companies decreased by 2.4% to 56 billion rubles.
