ItalyТs Eni starts opening accounts at Gazprombank
ROME, May 17 (PRIME) -- Italian energy company Eni has started the process of opening accounts in the ruble and the euro at RussiaТs Gazprombank to pay for gas, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
УAs deadlines for the payment of gas supplies are scheduled for the next few days, Eni has begun the process of opening two K current accounts at Gazprombank, on a precautionary basis (one in euros and the second in rubles). This follows Gazprom ExportТs unilateral request to amend the existing contracts between the parties in accordance with the new gas payment procedure established by the Russian Federation,Ф Eni said.
УWhile Eni has rejected those amendments, it is going to temporarily open the two accounts without prejudice to its contractual rights, which still envisage payment in euros. This explicit conditionality will be included in the payment procedure,Ф the company said.
