Ministry sees demand for supersonic jet in Russia at 30 planes

MOSCOW, Jan 29 (PRIME) Ц RussiaТs demand for supersonic civil jets may stand at about 30 planes, a spokesperson of the Industry and Trade Ministry told PRIME on Monday.

Earlier in January, President Vladimir Putin suggested creation of a civil supersonic jet on the basis of Tu-160 missile carriers. United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) CEO Yury Slyusar told Putin of the existence of a civil supersonic plane project.

УWe have a scientific and technical reserve for development of supersonic administrative planes at the facilities of UAC. Demand on the internal market is forecast to reach at least 20-30 aircraft given the price of U.S. $100Ц120 million. The export potential of the plane may also be significant,Ф the spokesperson said.

Design and creation of the first test and display model of the plane with a capacity of up to 50 seats will take seven or eight years given the head start in development of the planeТs propulsion unit, the spokesperson added.
