On April 6, the U.S. imposed sanctions against 38 Russian tycoons, officials and companies, including tycoon Oleg Deripaska and companies under his control Ц En+ Group, GAZ Group, Basic Element, and UC RUSAL.

On Thursday, a government source said that Deripaska had sent a request to the government asking it to buy aluminum into state reserves. Earlier on Friday, presidential aide Andrei Belousov confirmed the fact that the proposition exists, but declined to comment on the matter.
