Report: Turkey can curb Russia imports to retaliate for tomatoes
ANKARA, Mar 20 (PRIME) -- Turkey opposes Russia’s restrictions on some companies allowed to import tomatoes and does not rule out introduction of limits for Russian exporters, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci told newswire Anadolu late Monday.
“We are against this measure. If needed, we will take the same step, will choose companies we will give the right for exports,” Zeybekci said.
Moscow banned tomato imports from Turkey in the framework of the sanctions introduced after Ankara downed a Russian Su-24 bomber in 2016. In November 2017, the restrictions were lifted but tomatoes are imported under quotas.
