Russia’s AvtoVAZ plans to fire 740 people, or 2% of staff

MOSCOW/SAMARA, Feb 20 (PRIME) -- Car producer AvtoVAZ plans to reduce 740 staff unoccupied in the key production activities, or about 2% of total personnel, the company said in a statement on Monday.

“The company has notified the Tolyatti city employment center and trade unions today on a plan to fire 740 workers not occupied in the core production activities. This constitutes less than 2% of the entire number of personnel of the facility. This procedure will be conducted in full correspondence with Russian legislation,” AvtoVAZ said.

AvtoVAZ introduced a four-day workweek since October in an effort to avoid staff reductions but on Monday a five-day workweek was reintroduced, the company said.
