ST. PETERSBURG, May 23 (PRIME) -- Russian state-controlled telecom operator Rostelecom, Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson and the State Hermitage Museum launched on Wednesday a trial zone of 5G connection at the HermitageТs General Staff Building on the threshold of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, taking place on ThursdayЦSaturday.
УWe have a unique opportunity to determine a practical application of the most advanced technology for the museum industry on the whole,Ф Rostelecom Vice President Vladimir Kiriyenko said.
УWe think 5G functions enable to digitize and store information about millions of items of cultural values. The technology makes possible to organize online virtual excursions in a 360 video regime.Ф
Rostelecom acts as a telecom operator providing required frequencies and technological infrastructure for 5G, and Ericsson offers technical solutions for the task. The museum gives its area to test the new connection standard.
УIn megalopolises, 5G technologies should cover the whole spectrum and in addition to that there are technologies of implementing industrial sites. I think it will be the story of big cities with millions of people and of industrial sites where 5G will be used for the industrial Internet,Ф Kiriyenko said.
УWe think the technology will show maturity signs by 2020. There will have been several professional and industrial implementations in the world, and we try to stick to the trends.Ф
