US, UK say ready for new sanctions over Russia's operation
WASHINGTON/UN, Feb 24 (PRIME) -- The U.S. and U.K. are ready to extend sanctions against Russia over its operation in Ukraine, U.S. President Joe Biden and U.K. permanent representative to the U.N. Barbara Woodward said on Thursday.
"Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the U.S. and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way. The world will hold Russia accountable," Biden said.
"We will also coordinate with our NATO Allies to ensure a strong, united response that deters any aggression against the Alliance," he also said.
At 5:30 a.m., Moscow time, President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a military operation in the Donetsk and Lugansk partially-recognized republics. Ukraine declared an emergency on its entire territory and closed the flight space for civil aircraft.
