Ukraine to slap ban on imports of mineral fertilizers from Russia
MOSCOW, Mar 14 (PRIME) Ц Ukraine will impose a temporary embargo on imports of Russia-made mineral fertilizers, Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman said on Wednesday.
In 2014, Ukraine introduced 5-year 20.51Ц36.03% anti-dumping duties on Russian ammonia nitrate, and Russia is now challenging the decision within the World Trade Organization (WTO). After the ban, Ukrainian farmers started to use carbamide and urea ammonium nitrate exported by Russia.
In 2017, Ukraine introduced anti-dumping duties of 31.84% on imports of carbamide and urea ammonium nitrate from Russia, too.
Economic Development Minister Stepan Kubiv said that Ukraine is trying to diversify its nitrogen fertilizers imports to decrease dependence on imports from Russia, but Russia-made fertilizers continue to arrive via Belarus and other CIS states. He added that the ban is temporary and will be lifted when the supplies have been diversified.
