Watchdog blocks website of marketplace Etsy from Wednesday

MOSCOW, Dec 3 (PRIME) -- The Russian communications service blocked on Wednesday the website of global online marketplace Etsy following a court decision, the authority said late on Thursday in a statement.

“From December 1, 2021, the Internet resource etsy.com was blocked by the communications service upon the decision of the court of the city of Tambov,” the regulator said.

The court said that it received a lawsuit from a prosecutor who said that the Etsy page “gucci replica” contained information with an advertisement and sale of accessories with trademark Gucci with delivery across the country, but there was no information on agreements with the copyright holder. The court found this information banned for distribution in the country.

Etsy works via protocol HTTPS that makes it technically impossible for the regulator to block only certain pages but the whole website.
