Official says Russia's greenhouse gas emission falls by 2% in 2020
MOSCOW, Feb 16 (PRIME) Ц RussiaТs greenhouse gas emissions decreased by about 2% in 2020 as the economy contracted, Deputy Director of the Global Climate and Environment Institute of the Federal Hydrometeorology and Environment Monitoring Service Alexander Nakhutin said on Tuesday.
"Our method does not take into account this sector and measures only technical sources of all greenhouse gases,Ф Nakhutin said referring to the timber industry and agriculture.
УThis estimate of minus 2% for 2020 was made on the basis of preliminary economic assessments of December 2020. The first economic assessment of the Federal State Statistics Service for 2020 has just been issued. The reduction of greenhouse gas production will be probably smaller now."
He said that the mineral resource sector contributes most to the greenhouse gas production. Power production from coal, oil, gas and other combustible fuel accounts for 79% of all emissions.
