Ambassador: Sudan wants Russian invest in resource development
MOSCOW, Mar 13 (PRIME) -- Sudan is interested in Russian investment in natural resource development, Ambassador Mohammed Elghazali Eltijani Sirraj told PRIME in an interview released on March 12.
"I think that Sudan can attract Russian investment in the sphere (of natural resource development). We expect that cooperation in the sphere will be extended, we have several agreements under discussion," the official said.
Several Russian companies are working on metal projects in Sudan, including GPB Global Resources, M-Invest and Russdragmet. Geological exploration operator Rosgeo has finished a metallogenic map of Sudan on behalf of the state geological agency.
According to the ambassador, Sudan is interested in buying Russian grain and vegetable oil and could become a hub for Russian food exports to other African states. The country could export cotton, food additives and fruit to Russia.
The central banks of Russia and Sudan are discussing using the national currencies in transactions. "This is in many respects a technical issue: the central banks of the states will study the issue, see how it works, and we shall see a result soon," Sirraj said.
