Russia’s Mechel halts ops at 2 more Romanian plants due snowfall
MOSCOW, Feb 17 (PRIME) -- Russian metals and mining group Mechel said Friday that it had suspended operations at two more steel smelters in Romania, Mechel Targoviste and Ductil Steel Otelu Rosu, due to limited scrap supply caused by heavy snowfalls.
Andrei Deineko, CEO of Mechel-Steel Management Company, said that the plants were using winter stores of scrap over the past few days, which are now depleted.
On Wednesday, Mechel has temporarily suspended operations at Romanian Mechel Campia Turzii and Ductil Steel Buzau as the plants were cut off from major roads due to severe weather conditions. Mechel plans to resume operations at Campia Turzii and Ductil Steel Buzau plants on February 22 and February 24, respectively.
