Gazprom CEO: Nord Stream-2 pipeline fully ready for operation

ST. PETERSBURG, Dec 30 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline is fully ready for operation, gas giant Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller told President Vladimir Putin late on Wednesday.

“The Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline is ready for operation,” Miller said.

Gazprom completed filling the second string of the Nord Stream-2 pipeline with gas at 12.58 p.m. on Wednesday, Miller said.

Nord Stream-2 is a gas pipeline that unites the Russian coast with Germany via the Baltic Sea. It is implemented by Nord Stream 2 AG with the sole shareholder Gazprom. The project’s European partners Royal Dutch Shell, OMV, Engie, Uniper and Wintershall have provided 50% of the financing for the project, up to 950 million euros each.

The pipeline construction was completed on September 10. Both strings have been filled with technical gas and the pipeline is ready for operation. Nord Stream-2 is currently undergoing certification by the German Federal Network Agency. The process was halted in November because the regulator deemed it necessary for the operator to create a subsidiary in Germany and reapply for certification as an operator on its behalf, as required by European law.
