Nord Stream 2 AG files for status of independent gas operator

MOSCOW, Jun 24 (PRIME) -- Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of Russian natural gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, has filed an application for certification as an independent gas transmission system operator, the company said in a statement on Thursday.

“On 11 June 2021, following the request of the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), Nord Stream 2 AG submitted an application for a precautionary certification as an independent transmission system operator in accordance with sections 4b, 10 et seqq. of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG),” the statement read.

The company continues its ongoing litigation and arbitration proceedings in relations to amendments to the E.U. Gas Directive introduced in 2019. The application for certification does not mean any changes in the company’s legal position, which it firmly continues to pursue in the courts, Nord Stream 2 AG said.
