Digital, Defense Ministries mull conversion of frequencies for 5G
MOSCOW, Apr 11 (PRIME) -- RussiaТs Digital Development Ministry has found frequencies in the range of 3.4Ц3.8 GHz, the most convenient for 5G deployment, at dozen fixed-line operators, but conversion of the resource for mobile connection should be settled with the Defense and Interior Ministries, Deputy Minister Oleg Ivanov told reporters late on Wednesday.
УNow more than 10 operators, including large firms, work in this range, but itТs fixed-line connection. We hope there will be a possibility of conversing some of these frequencies from fixed-line into mobile connection under a frequency table,Ф Ivanov said.
УIf we succeed in coming to terms on the matter with the Defense Ministry and other law enforcement entities, we can hope for a quick development of 5G in Russia.Ф
Conversion is possible Уonly on the basis of very qualified practical studies, serious scientific research,Ф the official said.
Media earlier reported that the Defense Ministry thinks it is too early to transfer a 3.4Ц3.8 GHz frequency range to mobile operators for development of 5G networks.
УWeТre holding dialogue (with the Defense Ministry). I would not say that they are avoiding the topic. They listen to us. WeТre trying to find mutually acceptable solutions,Ф Ivanov said.
The matter will be discussed at a meeting of the State Radio Frequency Commission on April 15.
Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov said on Wednesday the country has all the resources to create 5G networks by 2024 or even earlier.
